Note that it doesn’t work with any Chamberlain brands newer than 2011.Monitor and control your garage door, gate, commercial door and home lighting from anywhere with your Android phone or tablet.*** Note: Requires LiftMaster MyQ hardware and a compatible garage door opener, gate operator or commercial door operator. There are no other home-automation skills, such as geofencing, and no camera integration, and you can only use a wireless sensor. You can share the door with up to 20 users and see who accessed it, plus it works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant to both open (with a PIN) and close. The Connect is UL-listed, and the revamped app is easier to use, with a better design, and it still retains its good Rules feature, which lets you set the door to auto-close, among other things. It worked reliably in our testing, and so it is a fine option if you already have a Genie door opener and know that you won’t want smart-home automations or the ability to auto-open (like our other picks have). This smart controller is a giant device, with four huge buttons to control up to three doors, and it is designed to replace your wall switch (although it doesn’t have to). The Aladdin Connect is the Genie’s answer to the Chamberlain MyQ. We also received a number of false alerts from its wireless sensor during testing, and you can operate only one door per unit. We decided against the Nexx as a pick because its app didn’t work consistently, often requiring two taps to operate the door and sometimes failing to sense whether it was open or closed. The Nexx works with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Samsung SmartThings, and it is UL-certified. The Nexx allows for detailed scheduling options, and you can set a timer to open or close the door after a certain period (though you can’t set a door to auto-close). A wired sensor is also available, and it has an adapter to work with newer Chamberlain-brand openers. It offers built-in geofencing (no need to use IFTTT), good sharing options, voice notifications through the app, and both carbon monoxide and temperature sensing to alert you to potential danger. If you have only one door to operate and don’t need HomeKit compatibility or precise proximity sensing, the Nexx Smart Wi-Fi Garage Door Controller NXG-200 is worth considering. There’s also no option to share access to your door, and though the device will emit an audible warning beep when closing, it’s not on by default, it is very quiet, and it beeps only three times, not the UL-required five. Proximity sensing is available only through HomeKit, however, and that integration is tricky if you have only one or two doors, since Meross works with up to three, and all of them show up in the Apple Home app. Beyond that, the Collie has a lot to like-a reliable wired sensor full Alexa, HomeKit, and Google compatibility out of the box the ability to control three doors compatibility with newer Chamberlain brand doors, thanks to an adaptor (not included) an auto-close option a notification if the door is open at night and a scheduling feature. But until Meross supplies some decent instructions and perhaps some extra hardware to help with installing its wired sensor, we can’t fully recommend it because the installation process was more than painful (and there’s no wireless option). If you’re looking for a less expensive way to get HomeKit control and can’t wait for Tailwind’s implementation, the Meross Collie Smart Garage Door Opener Remote is your best option.
